COP30 – Monday 10th to Friday 21st November, Belem, Brazil
  • The Energy & Climate Intelligence Unit has produced a CoP30 Visual Guide with everything you need to know about this year's UN climate summit in Belém, Brazil. It is all set out in a very useful set of infographics: https://eciu.net/analysis/infographics/cop30-explainer-infographic
  • The key issues that will be discussed include:
    • Finances – the finance to reduce emissions, adapt to climate impacts, and deal with devastation as a result of climate change
    • Promoting adaptation – this COP will need to agree on indicators to track progress made against the adaptation framework created at COP28.
    • Transition away from fossil fuels – how to advance and monitor the implementation of goals needed for the transition.
  • Listen to this Inside COP podcast series to hear about the high stakes and the complex mechanics of a climate summit: how they’re structured, who’s running the show, and what makes this one different.

Resources

Herschel Halo Infrared Heating: Margaret Broadhurst has shared information about the potential use of Infrared heating in churches which could be an alternative for churches, especially historic ones. One of the advantages is that it heats up a church in half an hour and can heat just one area within the church. https://www.herschel-infrared.co.uk/heritage/ .Here is a video of a very positive example of installing Herschel Halo Infrared Heater at St Michael’s Church in Aynho, Northamptonshire: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-ZI0lDcWro

Environmental films to show in local communities to spark thought and discussion. Community Action Groups Oxfordshire have compiled over 60 suggestions. See the films database here
