Churches Together in Milton Keynes

We are a network of Christian communities in Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas. We are working together to show God’s love to the Borough and City of Milton Keynes.

Our current priority is to build a strong network of committed member congregations.

We have a particular concern with Poverty, Climate, Refugees, Racial Justice and Mental Health.

Prayers for the City of Milton Keynes - Friday 24 October 2025

Prayers for the City of Milton Keynes take place every Friday at the City Church Christ the Cornerstone, in the Chapel, at 12.30pm (15 mins). All are Welcome.

Christ the Cornerstone Prayer (Please note additional words in the ending)
Lord Jesus Christ, be the Cornerstone of your people in this city.

In the task of building a City Church, guide us with your counsel, support us with your strength, unite us with your Spirit

Grant, Lord that the doors of this church may be open to the world.
Its round sanctuary may speak of your wholeness.
Its high dome may tell of your transforming presence.
Its crowning cross may proclaim your saving love.

Here teach your people to act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly with you.
Here may we learn from you to give good news to the poor,
to bring sight to the blind, to set captives free.

Christ the Cornerstone, set us all close to you as living stones
to make a spiritual house of God and an Oasis of Hope for this city.

Amen

                 Paul’s letter to the Romans, chapter 8 verses 18 - 25

For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot do it. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil that I do not want is what I do. Now, if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I that do it, but the sin that dwells within me. So I find it to be a law that when I want to do what is good, evil is close at hand. For I delight in the law of God in my inmost self, but I see in my members another law at war with the law of my mind, making me captive to the law that dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?
Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!
So than in my mind I am a slave to the law of God, but in my flesh I am a slave to the law of sin.

Gospel of St Luke, chapter 12, verse 54 - 59
Jesus also said to the crowds, ‘When you see a cloud rising in the west, you immediately say, “It is going to rain” and so it happens. And when you see the south wind blowing, you say, “There will be scorching heat.” and it happens. You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and sky, but you do not know how to interpret the present time.
And why do you not judge for yourselves what is right?
Thus when you go with your accuser before a magistrate, on the way make an effort to settle the case, or you may be dragged before the judge and the judge hand you over to the officer, and the officer throw you in prison. I tell you, you will never get out until you have paid every last penny.

                Psalm 119 verses 33 - 40
Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes, and I shall keep them to the end.
Give me understanding and I shall keep your law. I shall keep it with my whole heart.
Lead me in the path of your commandments, for therein is my delight.
Incline my heart to your testimonies and not to unjust gain.
Turn away my eyes lest they gaze on vanities. O give me life in your ways.
Confirm to your servant your promise, which stands for all who fear you.
Turn away the reproach which I dread, because your judgements are good.
Behold, I long for your commandments, in your righteousness, give me life.

Faithful God, let your word be the treasure of our hearts, that we may delight in truth
and walk in the glorious liberty of your Son, Jesus Christ.          Amen

Time for open prayer for our city and its connections to the world

................................................

Our Father in heaven, hallowed by your name,
Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation  but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
Amen

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all now and evermore.   Amen

May God’s blessings surround us this day
as we trust him and walk in his way
May his presence within guard and keep us from sin.
Go in peace, go in faith, go in Love.
